Frequently asked questions
Missionaries with BMW are not salaried employees. Every missionary needs to raise their own financial support through relationships with churches and individuals.
Much of that will depend on where you are going and the make-up of your household. BMW provides a careful step by step plan that includes you, your sending church and our financial and leadership team. In some places in the world, it is not uncommon to see missionaries needing to raise $10,000 a month or more. If this sounds daunting, don’t let it be! God has the resources as His disposal, and we will help train and encourage you through the support raising process.
No. We go through the careful process of determining the amount of support that will allow you to minister unhindered and to provide for your household. Deploying without full support is often a cause for missionaries to have to come off the field, as either their ministry or family is suffering due to financial hardship.
This again may depend on your season in life, your network of relationships and how much you are needing to raise. Many of our missionaries in the last several years have raised full support in 12 months! 24 months is a pretty good benchmark.
BMW is proud of our commitment to prioritizing funds for the work in the field and our missionaries enjoy fees less than most clearing houses! We charge a 10% administrative services fee but currently cap the annual contribution at $6,000. Effectively, the average BMW missionary pays less than 6% in AS.
Yes, and with few exceptions it is required. We have negotiated for an excellent plan at a highly competitive price point. The cost of the plan is built into the support schedule.
Yes, BMW has a 403B plan that our missionaries are required to contribute towards as part of their support raising plan.
BMW requires new missionaries to complete four, one-week training modules. Visit www.biblicalministries.org/training to learn more about them. Veteran missionaries looking to apply may have a specific training plan developed for them that includes less modules, based on their experience.
You do not need to have a Bible degree, but you need to know your Bible well. Obtaining a Bible degree through dedicated study is often an excellent way to accomplish this and is encouraged, but the piece of paper is not the final source of your Bible knowledge. BMW will provide some assessments to help us determine your Bible knowledge, but this is most importantly affirmed by your sending church, who knows you best. BMW also enjoys relationships with several Bible colleges we can recommend that include one-year Bible degree programs to prepare you for your calling.
Biblical Ministries Worldwide is non-denominational, baptistic in our theology and distinctively dispensational. You can review our doctrinal statement here: LINK
BMW proudly believes in a literal, grammatical hermeneutic of Bible interpretation, a distinction between the Church and Israel, and a premillennial, pretribulation rapture.
No. Our desire is to come alongside you and your sending church to help you accomplish getting to the place where God has called you.
No, but we will evaluate locations with wisdom. There are certainly places in the world a deeper strategy may be required.
We would love to learn about your gifts, skills, abilities and experience and introduce you to needs our teams currently have in the field for co-laborers where you might be a good match.
BMW is not focused on a particular geography but committed to helping the local church get their people to where they are called. We are currently in about 70 countries around the world. We would love to be in every country, and every major city in the world preaching the Good News of Christ!
BMW is always willing to explore and open new fields, but we want to do so with wisdom. The process of sending in teams in Biblical and we would desire to send a team together, or to find existing relationships on the field to serve as teammates. They do not have to be BMW missionaries, but theologically and philosophically aligned.
Biblical Ministries Worldwide exists to serve the local church and missionaries fulfill their responsibility to send their very best to reach the nations for Christ, in full obedience to the Great Commission. If every mission agency in the world shuttered their doors tomorrow, the command to reach the nations would still fall on the local church. BMW does not stand to usurp or replace the role of the local sending church, but to use our experience and expertise to come alongside and train, assist, administrate, encourage and care as part of a comprehensive missionary team.
