As a former Coast Guard member stationed on Kodiak Island, Alaska, I noticed a need to reach young people with special needs. With the assistance of my local church, the Special Friends ministry was created to teach God's truths to special needs teens and adults through Bible stories, sign language, drama, and hands-on activities. My staff of volunteers and I minister 25+ teens on average each week.
