Stephen & Rowena Barnes
My (Steve) parents served God for 20 years in Algeria, North Africa, where I grew up and attended French school. Rowena's parents were church planters in Eastern Washington who followed the Lord's lead to teach at a school for missionary children in Niger, West Africa. We met at Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa, in the early 1970s. We were drawn together by our shared interest in reaching the Muslim world with the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ. We married in August 1974 and left for the country of Jordan in September 1975.
Expelled from Jordan after two months, we went to France where many North African Muslims had immigrated. We started an Arabic-speaking meeting in Paris and then established a French-speaking church in Saint-Denis, a suburb of Paris. In 2013, we moved down to Fréjus in southeast France to pick up a ministry started in 1970 by my parents, Wilber and Edna Barnes, following their expulsion from Algeria in 1970. Please join us in prayer for the small church nucleus in Fréjus. We are trusting the Lord for spiritual and numerical growth resulting in an independent Baptist church in a very needy area of France. We are, by faith, praying for a French pastor, for believers to step into leadership positions in the women's and children's ministries, and for the Lord's direction in the purchase of a church building. I (Steve) am very involved with the pastors of the French Independent Baptist network. Presently, I serve as a Board member of the Alliance Baptiste de France and teach classes at the Bible Institute in Algrange. Both Rowena and I serve on the French mission board of AMEBI and the Camp Arc-en-Ciel.
Our sending church is Emmanuel Baptist Church in Toledo, Ohio.
