Europe is the New Dark Continent.
Pervasive secularism, the unprecedented migration of peoples, and the rapid growth of Islam all contribute to the desolate spiritual landscape on a continent rich in history and natural beauty. Ministry in Europe is challenging, and we are seeking interns who are seriously considering the prospect of ministry there.
This three-week internship will start with five days of training in Algrange, France (June 24-28). The week will include:
- Classroom instruction on European history, current trends in Europe, and the theology of missionary methods
- Interactive learning about selected topics in cross-cultural effectiveness and language acquisition
- Local cuisine and cultural exposure
- ZOOM roundtable on the needs of Europe
- Cultural intelligence assessment and workshop
- Guided tour of 2000-year-old Trier, Germany and nearby sites of historical significance
- Outing to nearby Thionville, France
- Visit to an international church in Luxembourg established by BMW missionaries.
Following the training week, participants can choose to travel to either one or two BMW fields in Europe (Hungary, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain) or the UK. Interns will be able to observe and participate in various aspects of church planting and question missionaries about life and ministry on their respective fields. Missionary hosts will provide visits to nearby sites of historical, geographical, cultural, or religious significance.
Due to the location of the training and occasion of the Paris Olympics, flights to and from Europe should be through Luxembourg (LUX). We will help participants make appropriate travel plans.
