NextGen Bible Institute
The Opportunity
Despite the gospel being in South Africa for more than a century, there continues to be enormous biblical illiteracy and the vast majority of pastors have little or no theological education. Therefore, the mysticism pervasive in the African worldview has blended with Christianity pushing people either to the distortions of the prosperity gospel or to syncretized worship combining the veneration of ancestors with the worship of God.
However, God has begun drawing the next generation of young African adults back to Himself and His Word in what has become known as the “sound doctrine movement.”
The problem is that in the Durban metropolitan area of 3.5 million people, there has been virtually no theological education.
Why We Exist
Our purpose is to equip the next generation for ministry to the Lord, to the local church, and to the world. As Psalm 22:30-31 states, “Posterity shall serve Him; it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation; they shall come and proclaim His righteousness to a people yet unborn, that He has done it.”
Our team of nine academically qualified faculty, comprised of both South African pastors and American missionaries, aim to:
-
Equip the heart (godly character) through personal and group mentoring
-
Equip the hands (ministry skills) through co-ministry and coaching
-
Equip the head (knowledge of Bible and theology) through Bible and theology classes, seminars, conferences and a partnership with South Africa Theological Seminary (SATS)
Our Model
In a growing number of locations that we are securing along the Durban coast, our faculty provide an initial year of six in-person courses (Biblical Worldview, OT Survey, NT Survey, Bible Doctrine Survey I & II, and Hermeneutics) leading to a Higher Certificate in Theology or a Bachelors in Theology with SATS.
After their first year is completed, we continue to provide the following services:
-
We meet weekly with clusters of students in our Learning Centers along the Durban coast mentoring them for ministry as they study online with SATS
-
We provide a growing theological library of 11,000+ volumes, digital resources, and online access, at our hub facility in KwaMakhutha, Amanzimtoti and in other key Learning Centers
-
We organize and provide special seminars and conferences on preaching, biblical counseling, leadership, the family, and dealing with various theological and ministry issues
-
We provide coaching and feedback by providing internships, doing ministry together, or visiting students in their places of ministry.
-
As we are enabled, we provide tuition and tech assistance to students studying at SATS.
